This presentation will critically focus on Namibia’s history and the current development of the tourism sector. It will look at new forms of tourism, tourism as a way of poverty reduction, community based tourism and tourism as empowerment for local communities and disadvantaged people.

Tonderayi Prosper Mageza is a Zimbabwean-born Namibian Resident who is a Sustainable Tourism and Business Development Professional. He is currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Innovation and Management in Tourism at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. He is researching the use of artificial intelligence for sustainable development in tourism destinations. As the former head of the Tour and Safari Association of Namibia, he is an accomplished tourism development manager and is driven by a strong passion for conservation and social sustainability.
