The Chiala Afrika Festival is one of the highlights among the cultural summer events in Graz. It is a three-day open air festival in the Augartenpark featuring numerous workshops and performances in which national and international artists elate and inspire visitors with their music, their creativity, and their craft – in the open and free of charge.
The aim of the festival is to build a bridge between Austria and Africa’s multiple realities, and to convey images which show Africa, its people and people of African origin living in Europe from various perspectives and in a multifaceted way.
The numerous highlights of the festival provide the public space with a frame allowing for contact between people of diverse geographic and social origin, age and gender. The festival, where mutual exchange free of stereotypes can take place, stands for openness, encounter and communication as basic requirements for a peaceful community.
