Botaniker:innen aus aller Welt trafen sich im Juli 2024 in Madrid zum Internationalen Botanischen Kongress. Alle sechs Jahre wird bei diesem Treffen demokratisch über Änderungen an den allgemein gültigen Regeln zur wissenschaftlichen Benennung von Pflanzen und Pilzen abgestimmt. Ab 01.01.26 sollen nur noch Namen vergeben werden, die von einem Ethikkomitee nicht als herabwürdigend bestimmt worden sind.
