Join us for an extraordinary discussion with Sudanese-Austrian poet Taudod Abdelrahman, who is going to share one of her poems titled “A Letter to Sudan” to highlight the situation of women in Sudan, and the broader implications of gender-based violence in conflict zones.
The women of Sudan are in the midst of a harrowing struggle against the backdrop of a complex political landscape, particularly in their battle against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This paramilitary group, notorious for its brutal tactics, has wielded sexual violence as a weapon, systematically using it to instill fear and achieve a sinister political agenda. The current situation has not only jeopardized the safety and dignity of countless women but has also highlighted the broader implications of gender-based violence in conflict zones. It’s essential to recognize that these women’s resilience is met with immense challenges, yet their voices deserve to be amplified. To convey their plight and strength, I would like to share one of my poems titled “A Letter to Sudan.” This piece encapsulates their struggle, resilience, and hope amidst despair. Through poetry, I aim to honor their experiences and provoke thought, urging us all to reflect on the urgent need for solidarity and action in support of these courageous women fighting for their rights and dignity. As we navigate this tight timeline, let us remember that even the briefest moments of reflection can bring attention to their stories and contribute to the global discourse surrounding gender-based violence in conflict.
The event is organized in cooperation with WAVE Network (Women Against Violence Europe) as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
